Multi-Age
Programs
The Children
Our future problem seekers and problem solvers
Bearcamp Valley School is an educational community
of families and teachers working in partnership
to serve children between the ages of 2 and
14. The school has a distinctive atmosphere
and philosophy. Our programs address the whole
child as a social, emotional, physical and
intellectual person. Attention is given to
all aspects of the child’s development
to enable he or she to grow as a balanced
person. Each child’s individuality,
style, and pace of learning is respected.
Everyone in the school is recognized and expected
to make a valuable contribution to our community
life. With this educational approach, our
children learn to become problem seekers and
problem solvers.
Multi-age classrooms, an
alternative to traditional grades, is growing
in recognition as an effective method of teaching.
At Bearcamp Valley School teachers are skilled
at maximizing the advantages of a multi-age
environment. Recognizing the child’s
learning style and what he or she brings to
the school, the program is structured with
flexibility that fosters an individual’s
rate of growth, self-esteem and subsequent
success. A child can move through the curriculum
at his or her own rate without grade interruptions.
Variable class size, opportunities to work
as a group, and periods of time for building
knowledge are central to our approach. Students
have time to get into a subject, take a break,
reflect and become reimmersed.
